Well Come by Erik Nebel is a wordless comic about language. It is also a comic that defies language, one that finds any verbal description lacking. It’s not that what’s depicted in Well Come is so complicated as to take paragraphs to describe, but that its imagery is so far from the everyday of picture making that just finding nouns to describe objects within the picture plane is it’s own linguistic challenge. Well, let’s try.
(gentle forewarning: you don’t necessarily need to jive with my highly-personal, potentially overwrought take on this comic to appreciate it, but I for one enjoy deep subjective readings of goofy comic strips and would like to see more of them. so, read my over-long thing about Well Come if you want to, but absolutely do read Well Come.)
